Coffee Shop Motivation

Monday, 11th April

So, I like to write and I tend to spend my Saturday and Sunday mornings holed up inside local coffee shops.

This is mainly because I struggle to write at home.  I get everything set up, the laptop, my notes and then….I get distracted.  Either by the dog or the TV or facebook (that’s when you know things are bad.)  Honestly, it just gets ridiculous.

So, here is my advice to you, fellow writers and procrastinators; go to a coffee shop.

I’m not sure what it is about them, but I am definitely at my most productive when surrounded by the hustle and bustle of people and the warm smell of coffee.

I feel a sort of kinship sitting there with my laptop, watching as other people also sit there with their laptops.  Sometimes we share a knowing look and a lasting – if silent – friendship is formed.

Okay.  Maybe I am exaggerating ever-so-slightly.

My point is coffee shops are the perfect place to sit and write.  Nobody disturbs you, there is an unlimited supply of caffeine and the whole atmosphere is friendly.  Most importantly, there is nothing to distract you!  You become so engrossed in your work that you hardly notice the ongoings of the people around you.  And before you know it two hours have passed, your chai latte has gone cold and you have four beautiful pages to show for your efforts.

Finally, you leave satisfied and feeling pleased with your productive day.  It’s a win win scenario!  Plus there’s the added bonus that your clothes will have the lingering scent of coffee on them and who doesn’t like the smell of coffee?  No one, that’s who!

So, that’s my little piece of advice for today, I hope it serves you well.  Have a transformative weekend!
